We introduced a women’s team to the AFL London league for the first time in 2017, starting the year with a small group of women in an exhibition match at Oxford University and ending the year by fielding a competitive, full team each week.

We ended our first season in the competition only one goal away from competing in the AFL London Grand Final. In 2019, we competed in the second-tier Conference division of the competition, and took home the win in the Grand Final!
As of 2021, we were placed in the Premiership division and played every game in 2021 and 2022 with smiles on our faces. In 2022, our women’s team had a successful second half of the season which saw us battle it out in the semi-finals. While we didn’t secure the win and a spot in the Grand Final, we gained enthusiasm for the 2023 season ahead.
We pride ourselves on our inclusiveness, socialness and the support that we offer our new players. In our opinion, what matters most is that you enjoy running out on to the field with the team week after week (and coming out for a drink afterwards, if you want!).
In addition to club-wide social events like the London Swans summer boat cruise and our Jorts pub crawl we organise events exclusive to the women’s team including our pre-season bottomless brunch and our end-of-season football trip, which saw our team descent on Benalmádena for a weekend in September.
Interest in women’s football is growing exponentially in London, just as it is in Australia and the rest of the world. Whether you were told there were no opportunities for you to play Australian rules as a girl beyond Auskick, or you’ve never actually seen an Aussie rules football, we are welcoming new players of all experience levels and backgrounds to come and have a kick with us in 2022 and beyond.
